Student Mark Goddard organises a Freddie Mercury tribute night on November 24th

07/12/2011

The organiser of the event, medical student Mark Goddard, tells us about the evening. Thank you Mark for all your hard work! ~ The MPT team

“I wasn't even two years old when Freddie Mercury lost his life, yet his, and Queen's, music has permeated mine, and so many others lives. It seems incredible that the 24th of November 2011 marked 20 years since he graced the  earth.

To mark this event and raise some money for The Mercury Phoenix Trust the University of Aberdeen Medical Society organised and performed in a Freddie Mercury tribute night, with the kind help of Club Snafu. It is quite amazing how much his music grabbed everyone, with 10 acts performing some of their favourite Queen songs (or at least, the ones they could manage to sing!). Performances ranged from the greatest hits to more obscure album tracks and everything in-between, including a bespoke rap about Freddie! Performers  included both students and doctors and it really demonstrated how great music can bring people together!

The night was thoroughly enjoyed by all and by raising £370 for the Mercury Phoenix Trust we have, hopefully, done our little bit to mark 20 years since we lost Freddie.”
