Raising awareness about HIV AIDS in Austria

On September 5th staff members of NGO Volkshilfe Vienna took part in an unusual event: A photoshoot with Austria’s biggest Freddie Mercury fan and singer Austrofred.
The initial idea came from the Junge Volkshilfe group, a sister group of NGO
Volkshilfe Vienna for young people, who want to take an active part in a socially
equitable society. “When asked the staff members of our organisation were eager to support this campaign to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, a disease which we as one of the biggest providers of health and care in Vienna are daily confronted with,” says Sonja Leonhardsberger, Nursing Care Manager of Volkshilfe Vienna.
“We wanted to take part in this global charity campaign to raise awareness as well as raising awareness with the younger generation to the worldwide fight against HIV/AIDS,” says Richard Vrzal, founding member of Junge Volkshilfe group.
Luckily everyone participating had a blast. While posing with the required Freddie
Mercury moustache to different Queen song titles and music for the photoshoot this whole adventure was recorded by Austria’s biggest TV station ORF for a short segment on the evening news that same day.
We had lots of fun and are happy that we also received positive feedback.
