On September 3rd Emeryck, artist and member of the Queen Fan Club Mexico, held an exhibition and charity auction of figures that he had created of Freddie Mercury and several science fiction characters of his own. Emeryck donated both his free time, art and 100% of the funds raised to La Casa de La Sal in the name of the Freddie For A Day campaign because he strongly believes in the cause, in helping people and he admires Freddie and Queen.
Last year when the first FFAD was launched Emeryck immediately got in touch with La Casa de la Sal, a benefit trust in aid of orphaned kids with AIDS. The Queen Fan Club Mexico supported him by spreading the word about his event among the Queen Fans in Mexico, posting the news on blogs and encouraging people to join in.
The fan club realise that people in Mexico are not used to donating, so there is a lot more work to be done in the future to make FFAD successful.
This year the response was better than in 2010, and Emeryck raised 200 dollars (about 3000 Mexican pesos) for the kids at La Casa de la Sal. You can read more about the feedback for Freddie For A Day Mexico 2011 on the fan club website.
On October 8th the fan club will be celebrating their big annual event, the Queen Fest Mexico 2011. This year they will be commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Queen, the 30th Anniversary of the Queen concerts in Mexico back in 1981, and will also be paying homage to Freddie. As part of the festivities, two more Freddie figures by Emeryck will be auctioned and some food and necessary items will be collected in order to help La Casa de La Sal and also to get people accustomed to the idea of FFAD, in preparation for FFAD 2012.
